About the NRD:

The Papio-Missouri River NRD is one of 23 Natural Resources Districts in the state of Nebraska responsible for the proper conservation and development of our states precious water, soil, forest and rangeland natural resources. Created by the Nebraska Legislature in 1972, The Papio- Missouri River NRD is a political subdivision of state government. An elected Board of Directors meets monthly to set policy and provide direction to a staff of resources management experts. Funding for the NRD comes from a property tax levy amounting to less than 2% of property taxes collected in the district’s 6-county area, federal and state funding for specific projects, and special project-area assessments.

NRD programs and projects are generally found in the areas of flood prevention, stream and lake water quality improvement, fish and wildlife habitat, soil conservation, recreation, groundwater conservation, tree planting and rural water supply.
