Safely and responsibly disposing of household hazardous waste products isn’t always an easy or convenient task. That’s why we encourage residents of Washington, Burt, Cuming, Dodge, Thurston, and Dakota counties to take advantage of the free Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collections on Friday, October 10th and Saturday, October 11th.
Collection Dates and Times
The collections will take place at the following locations and times:
• Dakota City (Dakota County): Friday, October 10th from 3 to 6 p.m. at Dakota City Public Works (2300 Mulberry St.). Enter 23rd St. & Willow St.
• Bancroft (Cuming County): Saturday, October 11th from 9 to 11 a.m. at Bancroft-Rosalie Community Schools west parking lot (708 Main St). Enter on Public St.
• Tekamah (Burt County): Saturday, October 11th from 1 to 3 p.m. at North Park Shelter parking lot (end of N. 11th St.). From Hwy 75 to Q St. and take 11th St. north to end.
Items Accepted
Items in household quantities that will be accepted at the collections include:
• Paint
• Pesticides
• Herbicides
• Oil
• Anti-freeze
• Cleaning chemicals
• Yard chemicals
• Fluorescent bulbs
• Car batteries
• Limited number of 2.5-gallon jugs
Items Not Accepted
The collections will NOT accept:
• Tires
• Electronic equipment or appliances
• PCBs
• Picric acid
• Science lab materials
• Radioactive materials
• Biological hazards
• Five gallon or larger containers
Retrofit Environmental (the contractor) makes the final determination on what items and quantities it will accept.
Funded by a grant from the Nebraska Dept. of Water, Energy, and Environment, the collections are sponsored by the Nebraska Loess Hills RC&D Council, Papio NRD, Lower Elkhorn NRD, and the communities of Dakota City, Bancroft, and Tekamah.
