Beauty and Benefits, Combined

Trees aren’t just pretty; they’re powerful. The Papio NRD has long been dedicated to encouraging and helping landowners and communities implement tree planting practices to harness their many benefits.

The Papio NRD offers cost share programs for planting trees on private or public land to improve soil health, protect crops and livestock, create rural homestead windbreaks, provide shelter and food for wildlife, add beauty to the community, and more.

Conservation Tree Program

The Conservation Tree Program is an excellent option for homeowners, acreage owners, producers, and operators to purchase low-cost bare-root tree and shrub seedlings to plant on their private land.

The seedlings are ideal for windbreaks, wildlife habitat, living snow fences, and more. Many seedling projects are eligible for Papio NRD cost share which can significantly reduce out-of-pocket costs.

Tree Planting Services

We also offer tree planting services. Each seedling costs $.75 to plant, with a minimum planting cost of $100 per project.

Cost share is also available to landowners who hand plant and those who pay for machine planting services. Species availability varies slightly per year.

For a list of trees typically available to order, visit the Nebraska Association of Resources District’s tree program catalog.

Tree orders forms are available from late November to February.

Pickup for seedlings is in mid-April at our Omaha, Blair, Walthill, and Dakota City offices.

NOTE:

To receive an order form, please contact your local field office to be added to the mailing list.

Celebrate Trees Grant Program

The Celebrate Trees Grant Program encourages and assists communities with tree-planting projects for community benefit on public land such as parks, cemeteries, tribal lands, libraries, and rural villages within the District’s service area.

The program provides grants of up to $3,000 with a maximum of $300 per tree. Funds cover the cost of trees and planting only. No matching funds are required. Applicants should plan to mulch, stake, water, and provide other care to ensure a successful planting.

The Papio NRD accepts grant applications from November to February.

NOTE:

Before completing an application, please contact your local field office.
