Calling all Monarch lovers!  In the summer months, this field is full of Common Milkweed plants!  Monarch Butterflies depend on Milkweed plants as their larvae and caterpillars feed exclusively on it.  These beautiful insects benefit from consuming this plant, which contains toxins (cariad glycosides), as it protects them against potential predators!  Milkweed has seen a dramatic drop in numbers due to use of herbicides and rapid land development.  Many conservationists are urging land owners, whether urban or rural, to participate in planting Milkweed to save the Monarchs!  When Milkweed numbers are down, unfortunately the Monarch number decrease as well.  Learn more on how you can participate in developing Milkweed habitat in your own backyard, check out the links below!
