The state tree of Nebraska!  These trees can be found statewide, preferring moist, well-drained soils near streams, rivers, and lakes.   They tend to stand tall among the canopy, sometimes reaching heights of 100’.  In Southeast Nebraska, a Cottonwood was crowned National Champion as the largest Cottonwood Tree in the United States!  Cottonwoods are fast growing, resilient trees offering ample amounts of shade with their wide canopies.  Eastern Cottonwoods are available through the Papio-Missouri River NRD Tree Program, check out this link for further information: https://www.nrdnet.org/tree-program.  Additional links below detail the Eastern Cottonwood Tree profile, along with another NRD program in which the species is available to enhance wildlife habitat!
